Gushes from a deep and perennial mountain spring

This is how the Alta Valle d’Intelvi was described, and this is how still it appears to whom now travels there to admire its beauty and enjoy its splendid panoramas on the border between Italy and Switzerland.

At the top of the valley, at a 900 meters height and near Lanzo, 150 years ago was discovered in Paraviso the spring of a quite unique mineral water, that was also used for medical and wellness purposes.

During the years, this spring maintained unchanged its original purity and its core organoleptic properties.Now offered under the ALPS brand, already carries in its name the echo of the places where it sprung, and from which draws its healthy features.

The water of an ancient source is reborn and it is bottled in a completely renovated plant, where a modern automatic line has been installed.

The quality of this water deserves greater visibility, and it is for this reason that the whole design phase, fron the choise of the type of bottle to the label’s graphics, its particularly accurate.

The combination of the two elements, that are qualitative excellence and high-level presentation, produce a premium product, placed at the upper end of the market. And this had already been understood by those old connoisseurs of a century and a half ago.

A 150 years story

"Lanzo d’Intelvi has been blessed by nature also with the gift of crystal clear and healthy waters, whose spring, recentently discovered, has been analyzed by the Senator of the Crown Antonio Berti, physician and professor of medical clinic in Venice, that pronounced this natural treasure of ours utmost rare, also judging it invaluable in the cure of many illnesses, and to be even used in curative baths and showers."

It was in 1868 that an enthusiast climber discovered, exploring the valley, the two original spring pools and had the water in it chemically analyzed. When prominent physicians of the time confirmed the significant and rare healthy characteristics that that water retained, the climber decided to make the most of his discovery.

Two years later, in Lanzo was established the Paraviso Baths, the first hotel in the Valle d’Intelvi, and the only provider of thermal treatments and bottled thermal water.

In the beginning of 1900, the Paraviso Baths were one of the most renowned luxury resorts among the spa-loving upper-mid class and the aristocratic society of the time, also attracted by the crisp air and the absolute beauty of the mountain environment.

The WWII hurricane came and made the whole enterprise uneconomic, the hotel was closed and then demolished while the spring disappeared.

In 1961 an entrepreneur came in Lanzo all the way from Milan, fell in love with the place and took charge of having a series of hydro-geological analysis done in the area. The search for the Paraviso waters ended with success in 1966: a new spring was detected 21 meters underground, where bacteriologically pure waters sprung clear, unscented, colorless and very pleasant to the taste.

The new owner had a modern galvanized steel water transportation system built on-site, with groundbreaking hygiene and technic criteria.

Bottling operations also were carried on the spot, where the renowned hotel once stood, and where the owner started to proudly tell the visitors he finally found his "fountain of wonders".

Thanks to its remarkable qualities, the “Paraviso” mineral water started to make a name for itself in both the italian and the foreign markets
